Copying links

Hi,
Is it possible to copy links which exist between two modules in one project, into identical modules in a different project. Identical means here same name, same objects IDs and texts, but could be some differences in other attributes or additional objects.

We have links made in one project but we didnt make them in the other project and would like to avoid doing the linking manually.

Is there for example a way to export a linkset and then some how import it in different module speciying the souce and target modules paths?

Would appreciate any help,
Thanks

Hi to Helsinki!

Yes it is possible by doing an export from the original, using DOORS off-the-shelf tools:

  • in one of the original modules, create a traceability view showing Object Identifier and Absolute Number from specific linked module: in Analysis Wizard select only Absolute Number to be shown
  • export this view to Excel / Spreadsheet (CSV)
  • import the CSV file to copy module (copy of the original from which you have the traceability data) by using the Spreadsheet import and updating objects based on the Object Identifier column
  • now you shoud have linked objects Absolute Number in the copied objects and you can use the Link by Attribute tool to link the copied objects, you can find this tool in Link menu

.. did not test this but it should go like this

This works like a charm!

One has to be careful to the exported/imported column names so that objects are updated and no new objects are created. Also I guess one has to select Specific source and target module for linking so that absolute numbers have meaning. really works ...this solves my problem.
Kiitos paljon! :)
